Flashlight of the Week

The Go! Team goes from 0 to 60 in a blink and they never pull off the redline. Their new video for "T.O.R.N.A.D.O." looks and feels like the schoolyard throwdown you've dream about, wherein you face your childhood nemesis head to head and reign victorious.

SXSW Spotlight: Mynabirds

If you think that 60s female vocal groups perfected the pop song, than listen to Mynabirds.

THE MYNABIRDS - NUMBERS DON'T LIE

The Mynabirds is vocalist Laura Burhenn who brings a soft nostalgic pop soul styling recorded in spot-on lo-fi fashion for "Numbers Don't Lie." This R&B revivalist elicits such authenticity that it is almost hard to believe the single was recorded in the Summer of 2009. I am curious to see what else Burhenn has to offer because "Numbers Don't Lie" sets a high expection for the album What We Lose in the Fire We Gain in the War due out on on April 27.

She notes on her facebook page :

The album features some notable guests. Orenda Fink (Azure Ray, O+S) and musician/engineer/producer AJ Mogis (Criteria, Monsters of Folk, Tilly and the Wall) lent their voices; Tom Hnatow (These United States) played pedal steel; and Nate Walcott (Bright Eyes) arranged the horns that underscore The Mynabirds' tight, soul-soaked sound.

Another reason to eagerly await Spring for the SXSW performance.
