Kidz in the Hall made their mark on hip-hop with 2006 School Was My Hustle, from Rawkus records known for "alt hip-hop" and launching Mos Def and Talib Kweli. With that same melodic soul groove that keeps up poetic and catchy rhymes, Kidz in the Hall released The In Crowd in 2008.
The first track, "The Blackout," is infections with a fat plucking bass introducing a wailing trumpet and old-school in the pocket drums. Estelle makes an appearance on "Love Hangover," that balances a mid-tempo dance pulse with her silky smooth chorus. My favorite track features members of Gym Class Heros on "Lucifer's Drive," it's pure laid back groove.
"Drivin' Down the Block" is the breakout track that has been sampled by mashers Girl Talk and E-603. Frankly once you make a hook good enough to stand out on mash-ups then you know you've done something right.
However, I expect Kidz in the Hall to play their latest tracks from the upcoming March album Land of Make Believe.
