All Songs Considered,

If you have been surfing The Get Down regularly, particularly the SXSW series, you may have noticed my tendancy to grab stories, embed playlists, and be generally obsessed with NPR Music and their program All Songs Considered.
If you are one of the many who still needs to be educated on NPR (National Public Radio) Music and All Songs Considered, this is your first of many lessons. In my opinion, NPR Music is the best source for quality artists (up and coming or established) who's talents are showcased both on the website and their most popular podcast, All Songs Considered. The show is running strong after 10 years and has been critically acclaimed, emmy-nominated, and webby-winning for its unique broadcast. Featuring roundtable discussion of music, live concerts, artist interviews, and just damn good songs, All Songs Considered is a dream job for music journalists.
When I submitted an application to intern there during the summer, I knew I was going up against a stack of other qualified and passionate young writers. Though my chance meeting with the All Songs producers, Bob Boilen and Robin Hilton at SXSW, may have given me a slight edge, I have not been able to fully relax until my application was acknowledged.
Though this may seem cheesy, yesterday I got the call that changed my life. Robin Hilton interviewed me for the internship and I gushed with passion, enthusiasm, and excitement only a music nerd like myself could exude.
But Robin must have understood and after our 20 minute interview about a mutual love for music he said, "You left an impression on Bob and I at SXSW... we'll notify you by the end of the day about our decision." I hung up the phone, ran out to my apartment balcony, screamed, jumped and wailed in victory. I knew I had it and just a few hours later, feeling more anxious that ever, I got the e-mail offering me the All Songs Considered 2010 Summer Internship.
Starting June 7th and continuing 40 hours a week for the next 10 weeks, I'm an apprentice at my dream job. I almost don't believe it's real. Yet, as I sift through summer housing possibilities in northwest Washington D.C., I can feel it in my bones: This is only the beginning.
